Hello all Very Happy
I am new to this so please bear with me.
I have two set top boxes from Virgin media, with the intention of going multi room. However I only have one of those little white inlet boxes on the wall Confused
I have connected one box to a TV in that room and activated it through Virgin. That works fine.
The problem is the person who had this house before has run coax behind the skirting boards to the next room, I wanted to use this so I do not have to drill holes/ run cables. I have bought adapters from B&Q to convert coax plug to cable plug, and have also bought a splitter with cable plug connections. I have placed the splitter between the white inlet box on the wall and the first Virgin set top box and connected the other output to the coax cable which goes to the second TV. However, the picture on the second TV keeps freezing and jumping. do I need an additional white inlet box from Virgin media, or have I connected it incorrectly?

Any help gratefully received!!!

In theory you are not supposed to touch cable TV wiring on a rental system as it doesn't belong to you.

You may find that a "set back" amplifier will help. You haven't stated the length or type of cable. The amplifier gain in dB needs to be roughly 0.2 times the cable length in metres.

This presupposes that the cable and associated connections/sockets are in good condition.

I haven't done anything wrong have I? Confused
When I spoke to Virgin media on the 'phone to arrange an account, I was told that due to previous owners of this house having Virgin media, I wouldn't need an technician to come out. They posted two set top boxes and one modem out to me. I am paying, and have been paying, for multi room right from the start, even though I can only watch cable on one telly. Crying or Very sad
If I get an engineer out, will he have to install another one of those little white inlet boxes on the wall? is that where I am going wrong?

Everything should work fine assuming the correct cable has been used and that the splitter is capable of 5 MHz -1 GHz range.
As stated it may need an amplifier, but the breakup can also be caused by the signal being too strong so then an attenuator would be needed.
Make sure all connections are good on the F connectors and that they are screwed up tightly(not with tools, finger tight is OK).
You should have up to date boxes, as the old Pace ones had very bad gain compared to the Samsung ones, if not get onto VM and explain the fault and they should check the signal and do whatever is needed.

I replaced the cable that ran from room one , in to room two.
I originally just placed coax to 'f' type adapters on the ends Rolling Eyes
This time, I used proper 'cable' cable Wink
I bought a splitter, ran the cables, connected all up, and got very lucky I guess! After reading on here about attenuaters and signal amplifiers and gawd knows what else, I was worried that this may not be that easy to do!
However, both boxes are now working perfectly. Phew!
The most annoying part, was finding someone from Vm who knew what they were doing, I guess. I rang the activation line on tuesday, gave the relevant info, was told all was done... tried it, nothing! I rang back, all through the same security questions and the press this for this automations. Eventually got through, explained situation, problem solved. Box all activated. Excellent, I thought, an end to it...
Went into the front room, no subscription channels, only the basic BBC1 2 etc.
Another two 'phone calls that night couldn't solve the problem.
Wednesday, came home from work, Another 4 'phone calls, same security questions over and over, being pushed from one dept to another, waiting for call backs that were not coming and having to start all over again... I was less than impressed!
I rang Vm customer services today, the first person I spoke too, I asked them for an engineer to come out to me, only to be told there was no need, and that they could solve it for me. I admit I thought 'yeah right' but I agreed to them trying. Within THREE minutes of picking up the 'phone, I had two, fully working Vm boxes, with my subscribed channels!
Why couldn't I have had this person right from the start? Rolling Eyes
But hey, all is now good Wink Cool Very Happy

How much would it cost per month to add two additional boxes package size large? I currently have a vigin box but with no package, would this box need to be upgraded in order to have a multiroom subscription? Also would there be any charge for installing additional boxes?
